National Stearman Fly-In - Day 2

Bob Matthews' Stearman, manufactured in 1943, was used by the U.S. Navy as a primary trainer during World War II. Matthews, Poplar Grove, IL, replaced the standard engine with a larger one -- a Pratt & Whitney R985 -- and repainted the plane in a red-and-white 'sunburst' design. The blue pinstripes, which make the paint scheme unique, were suggested by Matthews' wife Jodi.
