The schedule of events for the 2012 Fly-In is taking shape, and planners promise it will include all the activities that make this week the must-attend event of the year for Stearman owners, restorers and enthusiasts. Check back often for updates.

10 a.m.-6 p.m.: Narrated tram rides along Stearman flight line for general public (weather permitting). $1 per person.
Noon: Briefing at Jet Air hangar for short-field takeoff, spot-landing and flour-bombing contests.
12:30 p.m.: Short-field takeoff, spot-landing and flour-bombing contests. Contests sponsored by Kleine Equipment Inc., Galesburg, IL.
4 p.m.: Briefing at Jet Air hangar for participants in Wednesday’s Galesburg Public Schools Outreach Program.
Evening: Dinner on your own.
8 p.m.: Aaron Tippin Concert at The Orpheum Theatre, 57 S. Kellogg St., Downtown Galesburg. Country music star and Stearman owner-pilot in a special performance for the 40th anniversary National Stearman Fly-In. Concert sponsored by Kleine Equipment Inc., FM95 – “The Country Station, RFMS/Seminary Village/The Kensington, all of Galesburg, IL.
Seating: Prices range from $30 to $50, and include theatre preservation and ticket surcharge fees.

9:30 a.m.: Seminar: Stearman Pre-Purchase Inspections and Considerations. Conducted by Brian Aukes, Ankeny, IA. Jet Air hangar, Galesburg Municipal Airport.
10 a.m.-6 p.m.: Narrated tram rides along Stearman flight line for general public (weather permitting). $1 per person.
11 a.m.: Fly-out to Kewanee Municipal Airport, Kewanee, IL. Lunch menu: ribeye steak sandwich, potato salad, pasta salad, iced tea, lemonade, dessert. Cost $7.
2 p.m.: Stearman Aerobatic Contest at Monmouth Municipal Airport, Monmouth, IL. Contest sponsored by Kleine Equipment Inc., Galesburg, IL.
3:30 p.m.: Seminar: General Dope and Fabric Work, Rib Stitching. Conducted by Molly McNamara-Dean, Superflite, Granite City, IL. In Jet Air hangar, Galesburg Municipal Airport.
4 p.m.: Knox College flyover as part of the traditional “Pump Handle” opening ceremony for the college’s 175th academic year.
5 p.m.: Monmouth Prime Beef Festival Parade flyover.

9:30 a.m.: Seminar: Radial Engines conducted by Blaine Abbott, Covington Aircraft, Okmulgee, OK. Question-and-answer session following presentation.
10 a.m.-6 p.m.: Narrated tram rides along Stearman flight line for general public (weather permitting). $1 per person.
Mid-Morning: Fly-out to Gen-Air Park, Geneseo, IL, for lunch. Menu: Choice of seafood gumbo or chicken and sausage gumbo, corn on the cob, French bread. Cost $8.
2 p.m: Master’s Aerobatic Contest at Monmouth Municipal Airport, Monmouth, IL. Contest sponsored by Kleine Equipment Inc., Galesburg, IL.
4:30 p.m. Seminar: Flying the Stearman. Comments by air show stars Walt Pierce and John Mohr, followed by question-and-answer session.
6:30-7:30 p.m.: Pizza party sponsored by Dusters & Sprayers Supply, Chickasha, OK, at Jet Air hangar, Galesburg Municipal Airport. Free for Fly-In participants.
7:30 p.m.: Experimental Aircraft Association president Rod Hightower brings EAA’s “Grassroots Pilot Tour” to the 40th National Stearman Fly-In. Hightower, a Stearman owner-pilot, will discuss current aviation issues and EAA’s efforts to grow participation in aviation and inspire the next generation of aviators. 8:30 p.m.: Program: “Fly Navy” by Capt. Charles S. Downey, USNR (Ret.), of Poplar Grove, IL. The year 2011 marks the 100th anniversary of U.S. Naval Aviation. Downey, the youngest Naval aviator in World War II, fought off carriers in the Pacific Theater. He was selected for the rank of captain in 1963, retired from the service in 1975, and then pursued a career as an aviation executive. |

| Registration, Admission, Fees |
Registration: Pilots and visitors may register at the National Stearman Fly-In office at the Galesburg Municipal Airport beginning Monday, Labor Day. A packet of information will be distributed to the Pilot In Command of each Stearman Aircraft at registration.
Flight line badges: All persons must have a flight badge to enter the restricted tie down area. No charge for Stearman pilots, owners, Stearman Restorers Association members, their families and those in their parties. Other qualified persons (details available at National Stearman Fly-In office) may purchase a flight line pass for the entire week for $5.
Tram rides: The general public is invited to take tram rides along the Stearman flight line. See schedule for times and dates. Fee $1 per person.
Other charges: Most Fly-In events are open to the general public. Charges, if any, are detailed on the schedule. |
| Free Fuel for Stearman Pilots |
Vouchers for $30 worth of free fuel will be given to the pilot-in-command of each Stearman aircraft flown to Galesburg for the 39th National Stearman Fly-In. Vouchers will be issued during registration and may be redeemed at Jet Air Inc. This fuel program is made possible by a generous donation to the National Stearman Fly-In by the City of Galesburg. |
