National Stearman Fly-In – Day 7
Jim Carner, right, of Kirkwood, shares memories with members of the Lowe family on Sunday morning, Sept. 13, as the 38th National Stearman Fly-In comes to an end. Carner’s varied career in aviation started in 1946 when he learned to fly at the Galesburg airport when it was located on North Henderson Street. Earlier this year Carner received the FAA’s Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award -– given only to pilots with 50 or more consecutive years of piloting. Lowe, center, is co-founder of the Stearman Fly-In and was inducted this spring into the Illinois Aviation Hall of Fame. At left is Lowe’s wife Nancy; behind the men is the Lowes’ son Mike.
