National Stearman Fly-In – Day 1

Mike Porter, East Liverpool, Ohio, is the presumed winner of the National Stearman Fly-In’s “Early Bird” award -- for the sixth consecutive year. He arrived Aug. 31 at Galesburg Municipal Airport. The event started Monday, Sept. 7; he’ll collect the award during a banquet Saturday, Sept. 12. Porter, a professional aircraft restorer, completed a Stearman and a Piper Cub since the 2008 Fly-In, and says his next project is a Skybolt.
